Cosmetic Porcelain Veneers
Cosmetic porcelain veneers also known as dental veneers, composite veneers or simply porcelain teeth are thin shells of translucent porcelain or composite resin.
Cosmetic porcelain veneers are designed to improve the visual aspect of smile and the appearance.
Dental veneers hide rather then fix dental problems.
In some medical literature dental veneers refer to instant orthodontics.
It is a great way to get this attractive, celebrity-style super smile.
However, to correct actual dental problems you need to undergo a proper orthodontic treatment.
Cosmetic porcelain veneers are not cheap.
In fact all types (composite veneers, temporary veneers, teeth whitening veneers and resin veneers) are very expensive and generally not covered by the medical insurance.
You can expect to pay anything between $400-$1500 per tooth straight from your pocket.
Temporary Veneers
In the case where a large amount of tooth is missing temporary veneers are warranted.
In addition temporary veneers can help to reduce tooth sensitivity, further justifying the need for them.
However, in most cases you do not need temporary veneers.
You can wait until cosmetic porcelain veneers or composite veneers are ready to be fitted for your tooth.
If you choose to have temporary veneers then you must expect much higher cost.
Dentist needs to spend more time to prepare first the temporary and then the cosmetic porcelain veneers (or other permanent types).
You will also have to pay for more visits. In addition, the temporary veneers will not fit as well as the dental veneers.
Cosmetic dentist will need to remove the temporary veneers when he is ready to apply permanent dental types.
Thus, temporary veneers cannot fit too tightly.
Cosmetic Porcelain Veneers Advantages
Porcelain veneers are the most expensive. However, the advantages of this type of dental veneer probably justify the cost.
- Cosmetic porcelain veneers are vey durable. They can be made very thin and very strong.
- Cosmetic porcelain veneers can last 10-15 years (with good care) and very well resemble the real teeth. Unlike other cosmetic dental materials, cosmetic porcelain veneers resist staining.
- Finally, only minimal amount of tooth needs to be removed during the procedure.
Composite Veneers And Resin Veneers
Cosmetic porcelain veneers require time to prepare. Both composite and resin veneers can be finished in one visit. The cost for composite veneers is much lower. Both composite and resin veneers can be repaired in one visit, which is not the case for porcelain type.
Teeth Whitening Veneers
Dental veneers provide esthetics but no the cure.
Thus, they can be shaped and coloured to any requirements.
In some cases we can refer to dental veneers as teeth whitening veneers.
They do not actually whiten the teeth but allow for teeth to look perfect.
Paradoxically, you cannot whiten cosmetic porcelain veneers (or any other veneers).
You can whiten your real teeth but veneers colour will not change.
Teeth whitening veneers are usually worn by movie stars and celebrities.
It is a quick fix for a glamour picture but not easily affordable for general public.
The Cost of Cosmetic Porcelain Teeth
Cosmetic porcelain veneers can cost between $900 and $2500 per tooth. Composite veneers and resin veneers are cheaper ($250-$1500 per tooth). Another veneer type - Lumineer can cost between $700-$1100 per tooth. In most cases, medical insurance will not rebate the cost. Also, unlikely any tax rebate is offered for this procedure.
