Crowns for Teeth

Crowns for teeth also known as dental crowns, dental caps or tooth caps are a teeth-shaped caps which completely encapsulate teeth. Crowns on teeth ensure improved strength and appearance of teeth. The most common technique to create crown dentistry crowns is by employing dental impressions. Dentist prepares tooth impression and only then he fabricates dental crown outside the patient's mouth.

Dental crown prices are substantial. In many cases these are more expensive than veneers. Generally, dental crowns can cost between $500 to $900 per tooth. However, a portion of the dental crown prices is covered by insurance.

Why Crowns on Teeth

We use crowns for teeth for various medical and aesthetic reasons. The most common situations which may require dental crown are:

  • To protect a broken, weak or cracked tooth
  • To provide support for a weak tooth
  • To maintain a dental bridge in place
  • To provide esthetics for severely discoloured teeth
  • To encapsulate dental implant

Crown dentistry crowns are made from modern materials and this dental procedure is well understood. Permanent dental crowns are :

  • Metal crowns for teeth
  • Porcelain crowns for teeth
  • Resin crowns for teeth

Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns, unlike metallic dental crowns, can be colour-matched to patient's teeth. However, porcelain crowns are more expensive then other types. Porcelain crowns on teeth are stronger then all-resins dental crowns.

However, these are not as strong as metallic types. Porcelain dental crowns are ideal for front teeth. The front teeth have the highest aesthetic exposure but least mechanical wearing.

Dental Crown vs. Pain Veneers and DaVinci Veneers

Current crown dentistry crowns are designed for restoration and aesthetics of teeth. Veneers on the other hand are primarily for cosmetic appearance. In some situation veneers can help to reduce pain caused by a thin enamel and called pain veneers.

The most advanced of pain veneers are Da Vinci veneers (or DaVinci veneers). DaVinci veneers use a very thin ceramic material which provides both the beautiful teeth and the shield from outside elements. Therefore, Da Vinci veneers may sometimes be referred to as pain veneers.

However, this is the only situation when veneers may clinically help with dental problems. For all other teeth structural problems you must use dental crowns. For a pure cosmetics of your smile you should use daVinci veneers.

Dental Crown Prices

Generally, dental crown price range is between $500 and $900 per tooth. However, every dental situation is different and a higher dental crown cost is not uncommon. The porcelain crowns are the most expensive. However, these can be colour-matched to your teeth and the extra cost for them can be justified. At the end you do not want to look like a cyborg just because you can get 40% discount on the cheaper metallic dental crowns.
